Today's favorite quote...

Apparently the EFF was a little too hasty in their reaction to the recent Section 115 Reform Act (SIRA). They immediately put out a cry for help (which was also picked up by several major feeds) and promptly deluged congressmen and women with phone calls to help stop the passage of language in the bill which the EFF said:

... implies that licenses from copyright holders are needed for every digital copy made in the transmission of digital media -- including cached copies on servers or on your hard drive, and even temporary copies in RAM.

-- EFF web page

In response to this, Andrew Orlowski of The Register wrote an article that highlighted the bill's intention was designed to:

... help download services such as Apple's iTunes as well as digital broadcasters, propose a blanket license for mechanical copyright clearance.

-- "RIAA, EFF unite to sabotage digital reform"

Basically, EFF's action to help defeat this bill was in error. (The RIAA was also trying to defeat this same bill!) The best quote of that article I believe is:

So watching the EFF swing into action against a bill that weakens the RIAA and paves the way to seeing the EFF's lofty goals realized is rather like watching a dog fruitlessly hump a table. The table too may have four legs, but nothing productive will result from this union.

Red Bull gives you wings ... Sobe gives you cape?

And there it was, standing as tall and proud as any mass market scheme on the endcap at Safeway: Sobe Superman™ Super Power Adult Energy Supplement. Hahaha... It is a tall 16 oz. black and white can with the huge Superman logo right on the front. If you know me, you know I've tried all sorts of energy drinks and my fav is Mountain Dew Amp. They're all pretty bad for you so if I'm drinking one straight I want it to taste good. I opened this can of superfuel only a few moments ago and ... lo and behold! It doesn't taste like crap! Actually, it tastes pretty rockin' good! So, as much of a stupid marketing ploy it is, I have to give it up for the folks at Sobe for making a drink that has flavour in it.

Fun photos become spy photos?

I've been paring down all my photo archives to prepare them for display on the web when I noticed something: the resolution on my camera is now good enough that you can read the fine print in the picture! All of this got me to thinking that even the most casual photos can now reveal a lot more information to the viewer than was intended. Each of us has to be a little more careful about how we post all our personal data because it gets recorded forever in large archives.
