Scary!
This is definitely a disconcerting view of our current world. I work in software where even the most simplistic actions like one-click shopping and pop-up info bubbles can be patented. But geno patents take the cake. I can understand patenting maybe a new mechanism to extract gene information, or a chemical that aids in turning on/off certain gene pairs, but not the genes itself.
The book has little to no action sequences. This is more of a thought experiment about what might be possible with the technology of today and the ramifications of implementing them. You might even say the ending was a bit trite, but it was fun seeing how the characters interacted.
