A little short on the budget?

My Dad and I were talking about old movies when he brought up 3 Days of the Condor. It's one of his favs. So anyways, we're looking at the VHS tape cover and it says in the credits, I quote:
DINO DE LAURENTIIS PRESENTS A STANLEY SCHNIEDER RODUCTION
ROBERT REDFORD FAYE DUNAWAY CLIFF ROBERTSON MAX VON SYDOW and JOHN HOUSEMAN in A SYDNEY POLLACK FILM "3 DAYS OF THE CONDOR" Music by DAVID GRUSIN Director of Photography OWEN ROIZMAN, A.S.C. Based on the Novel "SIX DAYS OF THE CONDOR" by JAMES GRADY Screenplay by LORENZO SEMPLE, JR. and DAVID RAYFIEL
...

What? They didn't have enough money in the budget to do all 6 days so they trimmed it to 3?!

Actually there's a funny story about that. The movie script from my novel Six Days of the Condor was written to accomodate shooting budgets and the dramatic pacing of film. My new novel MAD DOGS is a thriller about 5 escaped mental patients all spooks who have cracked from different U.S. overseas operations. The 5 MAD DOGS travel for 8 days from Maine to DC using rusty tradecraft for one last necessary mission. Perhaps in the movie they'll do it in four! James Grady
